Release Date for Season 2 of You Don’t Know Me
Season 1 of ‘You Don’t Know Me‘ aired on Netflix on June 17, 2022. It first aired on BBC One from December 5 to December 13, 2021. The first season consists of four 54-58 minute episodes. This is what we know about the sophomore season.
The series’ producers and BBC executives have both declined to comment on the possibility of a second season. ‘You Don’t Know Me,’ as previously stated, is a TV adaptation of a crime novel that does not have a sequel. The first season, however, ends with a cliffhanger. If it proves popular enough, the makers may opt to renew it for a second season, which would allow them to solve the unanswered questions. If ‘You Don’t Know Me’ follows suit, it will not be the first or last show to do so.
The producers have the option of turning the show into an anthology series and developing new seasons based on Mahmood’s previous works. Alternatively, they could be two independent productions with only a tangential link in that they are both produced by the same creative team and are based on Mahmood’s books. The BBC has been doing something similar with Irish author Sally Rooney’s work.
In 2020, ‘Normal People’ was released, followed by ‘Conversations with Friends’ in 2022. Both are based on Rooney’s books and share the same creative team. In the end, regardless of how the next edition of ‘You Don’t Know Me’ appears, we can consider it a second season for the sake of convenience. If the show is renewed in the coming months, season 2 of ‘You Don’t Know Me’ will premiere in the third or fourth quarter of 2023.
You Don’t Know Me Season 2 Expected Star Cast
As previously stated, the protagonist’s name is never revealed. He is referred to as either the Defendant or the Hero. Samuel Adewunmi, a British actor, plays him.
- Sophie Wilde (Kyra),
- Bukky Bakray (Bless),
- Roger Jean Nsengiyumva (Jamil),
- Tuwaine Barrett (Curt),
- Yetunde Oduwole (Adebi),
- Michael Balogun (Face),
- Prosecution Barrister or Miss Mahmood (Badria Timmi)
Nsengiyumva and, most likely, Balogun’s characters will not return in the upcoming second season, except perhaps in flashback sequences. If the producers decide to continue with Adewunmi’s journey in the next season, he and the rest of the cast may return. New actors may be actively cast for other roles if the producers decide to adapt Mahmood’s other writings.
“You Don’t Know Me” Season 2 Plot
Bless is revealed to have shot and killed Jamil in the season finale of ‘You Don’t Know Me.’ Face is most likely also deceased. Curt and Kyra flee the scene. The Defendant decides to give himself in, ensuring that he would be held responsible for Jamil’s death. Before she goes, Kyra has the Defendant pledge that if he is unable to win her release in any other manner, he will hold her responsible for the crimes. The Defendant fantasises about being found guilty or not guilty. The series finishes ambiguously, just as the jury is about to deliver their decision.
If the filmmakers chose to continue the story of the Defendant and Kyra, we might learn that the Defendant is now free and on the lookout for Kyra. Bless might be able to assist him in his hunt. Kyra is, after all, her best friend. It can either be ‘All I Said Was True‘ or ‘I Know What I Saw’ if they adopt any of Mahmood’s other works.
