Apple TV+’s . after a few episodes of SurfaceViewers have already experienced many twists and turns, as the characters who believe what happened may not have happened as they imagined and the motivations of the same characters appear to shift.

But for those who think they know, the Apple TV+ thriller, starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a woman trying to piece together her memory after a tragic accident, debuted last week in three episodes. Not sure what’s coming after watching, the team behind the series said at the show’s premiere in New York last month.

“You wouldn’t know what to expect – that’s the only thing I can guarantee about SurfaceShowrunner Victoria West told Hollywood Reporter, “You wouldn’t predict the ending. You don’t know who someone really is and that’s really what we set out to do. There are a lot of shows where people guess the ending. But we’re not based on a book. There’s no way to google it. And I think it’s the strength of the story that we want to harness, just doubling down every episode, surprising people, moving the story back and forth .

“You don’t know what’s going to happen,” said executive producer Lauren Neustadter, whose Hello Sunshine banner along with Reese Witherspoon produced the play. “You think you know what’s going to happen and every time you’re sure you know what’s going to happen, we sabotage your expectations and something different and exciting comes your way.” I think it’s a really incredible, original thriller. People will think they know the twist but we’re going to bring something interesting for them.”

François Arnaud, who plays Sophie’s husband’s friend, advised those who think they have the show to “keep watching” and clarified that future revelations cannot negate what had come before.

“The thing is, there are many truths that appear but they don’t necessarily all contradict each other. They add a layer of understanding to it,” Arnaud said. “I think it’s the human experience in general. True about. Two people can be right and disagree on something.”

For Neustadter, the series was the perfect project for Hello Sunshine as the company was looking to do something with Mbatha-Raw after her memorable first season turn. the morning show,

“I read the script and completely fell in love with it,” Newstadter recalled. “I called Reese’s and I was like, ‘I think this is it. This is mesmerizing.’ The first time I read it, I was fascinated by Veronica’s writing by Sophie, this character and I felt like it was a perfect vehicle for Gugu and when Reese read it she agreed and we gave it to Gugu shipped and fell in love with it and the rest is history.”

In the world of the show, when Sophie tries to unravel her past, she opens up to some characters but is more cautious towards others. When asked why she is attracted to certain people, Mbatha-Raw explained that at the beginning of the series, “Sophie is not on solid ground. Apparently she’s lost her memory, and she’s really looking to tell the people in her life who she is, namely her husband and her best friend initially. For him it’s really about figuring out who to trust and even if he can count on himself.”
