Monza open transfer talks with Arsenal as Serie A looks a newbie to land Pablo Mari on loan deal

Arsenal defender Pablo Mari is a loan target for Italian club Monza.

The Serie A side, which won promotion to the Italian top-flight last season, is looking to sign a centre-back this summer and has identified Mari as a substitute.

Negotiations with Arsenal are at an early stage, but Monza hope a deal can be reached next summer with a view to making the move permanent.

Arsenal are set to let Mari go and are also hoping to transfer Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Alex Runerson, Hector Bellerin and Lucas Torreira.

Goalkeeper Runerson is attracting interest from Turkey, with Antalyaspor believed to be the club most eager to sign him on loan.

Torreira’s most likely destination is Galatasari, who are prepared to pay around £7.5 million to bring him.

Currently, Bellerin and Maitland-Niles are not close to leaving the club, but interest is expected to increase as the transfer window approaches.

Arsenal started their season at Crystal Palace yesterday and they were assessing the fitness of several players ahead of their trip to Selhurst Park today.

Emile Smith Rowe is expected to be ruled out of the game with a groin injury, while Fabio Vieira and Kieran Tierney are being assessed.

The pair have halted the start of the summers due to injury and Arsenal will be wary of throwing them into action with minutes short of them.

Tierney is recovering from a knee injury from last season, while Vieira arrived at Arsenal with a foot problem.
