Jamie Foxx says the promise of ‘Fun’ brought Cameron Diaz out of retirement: ‘It’s a special moment’

during an interview with entertainment tonightOscar-winning actor shares how he persuaded his ex any given Sunday costar, Cameron Diaz, to come out of retirement.

“Cameron is such an incredible force and he has done so much in this business,” Foxx insisted on the actress at first. “we love her.”

Explaining what it took to convince Diaz, 49, to appear in the upcoming Netflix film, back in actionFoxx, 54, said it was simply a proposal to have a good time.

“So it was really, ‘Do you want to have some fun? Just have some fun!’ And I think that’s what brought him to her,” she told the outlet.

“We miss special moments sometimes in our business, and I think it’s a special moment,” he continued. “So we’re very happy that this is happening and look forward to it.”

Foxx – who enlisted Tom Brady to help share some tips for un-retiring with Diaz – also said, “We had to be very innovative in how we, you know, her brought back.”

Last month, a film source told People that she Annie Co-star Foxx “follows” him for the new Netflix action-comedy film.

“When this project came out and she was followed by Jamie Foxx, someone she knows and has been working with for years, she decided to go for it,” the source said.

Diaz also opened up about her return to acting after an eight-year hiatus in a recent interview CBS Saturday Morning, The star told co-host Dana Jacobson that she missed her craft during her time there.

“Filmmaking is a special skill set that’s fun to exercise and be a part of,” Diaz shared. “But yeah, it’s a different lifestyle. And you have to be willing to do that.”

In her time away from acting, Diaz married Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, 43, and the two welcomed daughter Radix in December 2019.

A close friend of Diaz’s family told PEOPLE last month that Madden also “encouraged her to retire,” adding that she is “very excited for him.”
