Reports claim Newcastle United have now started talks over a possible signing of Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi during the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old has been with the Blues his entire professional career after coming through the club’s youth setup. He made his senior debut in January 2018 and has enjoyed 126 outings in all competitions. England were calling in 2019 and the talented youngster has three caps to his name.
However, he has not represented his country in three years, with only a peripheral role at Stamford Bridge. He started in just 10 Premier League games in 2020-2021 and came off the bench on several occasions, including 11 last.
Hudson-Odoi has scored 16 goals for West Londoners, but his days at the club may be numbered. journalist Rob Pratley insists that the Magpies have now started ‘negotiations’ on a potential deal.
He tweeted: “Newcastle have formally started talks with Chelsea over the possible signing of Callum Hudson-Odoi.
“The fee will be significant, and Chelsea are considering trying to incorporate a buyback clause.”
Tyneside chief Eddie Howe has made three signings during the off-season. Matt Targett’s loan deal became permanent while centre-back Sven Boutman came from Lille.
Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope completed the trio but the recruitment drive has lacked attacking players.
If the latest rumors turn out to be true, all this could change.
Hudson-Odoi twins part of Chelsea attack
Hudson-Odoi has been linked with relocating to St. James’ Park since early July. Howe wants to widen his options and sees the Londoner as a player with unfulfilled potential.
But if reports are to be believed, he is not the only Chelsea player being targeted. Striker Timo Werner is said to be on the North-East club’s radar.
The Germany international wants to see more playing time and may need to move forward to satisfy that wish. He has failed to produce goods on a basis consistent with the capital organization.
And a few weeks ago it was reported that RB Leipzig are keen to take him back to the Bundesliga.
Newcastle Due to the Saudi-backed takeover, the transfer can now compete with most of the clubs in the market. And maybe the 26-year-old wants to prove himself in the English game.
Pandit Gabbi Agbonlahor Hai Howe warned against signing 26-year-old, Although. The former Aston Villa striker feels he is ‘not good enough’ and ‘doesn’t score goals’.
Newcastle has been tipped to bring in a number of new faces and a slew of stars before the window closes.
And, with cash at his disposal, it would be surprising if the former Bournemouth chief picks Werner.
The Hudson-Odoi angle makes more sense as he is five years younger and would certainly benefit from playing regularly under Howe.
