The Girl from Plainville‘ tells the terrible story of Conrad Roy III’s death and his girlfriend Michelle Carter’s role in the catastrophe. The story follows Conrad and Michelle as they met and got closer, as well as in the aftermath of Conrad’s suicide.

The Hulu miniseries’ fifth episode is an agitated phase, revealing both the primary characters’ profound social uneasiness and disappointments. Conrad also appears to be having an affair with one of his classmates. Given that so much of the show is based on historical events, we decided to investigate how much of Conrad’s affair, as depicted on the show, is based on reality.

Is it True Conrad Roy Ever Cheated on Michelle Carter?

There appears to be no evidence that Conrad Roy III ever cheated on Michelle. They met in Florida in 2012 while visiting their separate families and communicated primarily via text messaging and email after that. Michelle and Conrad barely met in person a few times despite living in towns only 35 miles apart.

Conrad, who was 18 at the time of his death, graduated from Mattapoisett’s Old Rochester Regional High School with a 3.88 GPA. He was an all-around athlete who played baseball, rowed, and ran track. He was accepted to Fitchburg State University but elected not to attend. In the spring of 2014, he received his captain’s licence, and in June of that year, he graduated from high school with honours.

Conrad has a brief affair with one of his classmates at a high school party, as depicted on the show. He feels nervous shortly after the encounter and leaves the party, later informing his mother he doesn’t want to go to school. Because there are no public records of what happened at the time, determining if Conrad had an affair with a classmate is difficult. Though it is a distinct possibility, there is no proof that it occurred.

Is ‘May’ Shown in Episode 5 Based on a Real-Life Person?

May is the name of the classmate with whom Conrad had a sexual encounter in the episode. She makes a cameo appearance in a few episodes and looks to be acquainted with Conrad’s best buddy, Rob Mahoney. Surprisingly, Conrad’s real-life acquaintance Tom Gammell appears to have influenced the character of Rob. Conrad and Tom were teammates in baseball, and Conrad even paid a visit to Tom at Fitchburg State.

Despite the fact that Rob’s character is based on a real person, there is no specific individual on whom May appears to be based. It is probable that May is a fake character, as the show specifies that sections of the story are dramatised. However, just as we can’t rule out the idea that Conrad had an affair, we can’t rule out the notion that May is a made-up figure. May is more than likely a fake element to the plot, given how briefly she appears on the episode.
