Chelsea have been extremely busy in the summer transfer window and are reportedly considering a move for Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to bolster their forward line – but Aubameyang’s number of options outweigh the options already at Chelsea’s disposal. How does it compare?

The 33-year-old striker only moved to Barcelona in January, signing a deal that lasted until the summer of 2025, but the arrival of Robert Lewandowski in Spain has cast doubts over his Camp Nou future.

And, after loaning Romelu Lukaku to Inter, Chelsea are said to be eager to sign Aubameyang to add depth to their attacking options.

“Aubameyang has been named after an informal discussion between Chelsea and Barcelona,” Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told The Transfer Show.

“Although it must be said that Aubameyang has a wonderful relationship with Thomas Tuchel.

“If you go back when Tuchel was Borussia Dortmund manager, Aubameyang played under him for two seasons [2015-17], During that time he played 95 matches for Dortmund and scored 79 goals.

“It may not be as hypothetical as people are making up. These are just initial informal discussions and the name just popped up as Chelsea and Barcelona are talking about other deals.

“Barcelona is probably looking at loads of players which they probably need to get out of the pay bill. Will Aubameyang be one of them I wonder?”

Planet Football has crunched the numbers to assess whether Aubameyang would represent an upgrade on Chelsea’s forward line.

We have included the Gabon international’s 2021-22 league stats with both Arsenal and Barcelona and compared them with the respective Premier League numbers of the current Chelsea forward.
